Ruf Duck: Serious Rain Gear

August 14, 2015

rufduck_logo

Fall is nearly here, and with it comes the rain (at least for the Pacific Northwest.) And there’s nothing more important than serious rain gear. Ruf Duck was designed by a retired logger. They’ve become a hit for those who need protection in the toughest outdoor environments. Over the past 20 years, Ruf Duck has developed a following with dairymen, commercial fishermen and others who need practical rain gear.

The fabric is made on the East Coast to Ruf Duck’s specifications. Flame-resistant oxford nylon, 200 denier, was chosen because it is stronger than conventional weaves and lightweight. The nylon fabric is coated with a proprietary polyurethane waterproof film. The waterproofing is on the inside, protected from wear. The seams are double-stitched and reinforced in the back with extra vinyl to prevent leakage through the seams. The design of the garment acts like a bellow, circulating out perspiration laden air as you walk and work. The Ruf Duck Rain Gear is 100% waterproof.

Kangaroo and Emu Wallets Now Available

October 4, 2013

After many years, David Morgan has returned to selling kangaroo wallets. Kangaroo leather is well-known for its durability and suppleness. Although it is very thin, it is one of the toughest leathers available. It is perfectly suited for wallets.

We are also selling emu-leather wallets. Emu leather is also a thin leather that is supple and durable. The raised quills of the bird give the leather a distinctive pattern. The skin of the emu legs has a remarkable, reptile-like look that provides a stylish accent.

Our supplier is Adori, well-known in Australia for their high-quality craftsmanship. The company has a long tradition of designing unique and unusual Australian leather and travel goods.

Tilley Tec-Wool Now with C-Change Technology

September 20, 2013

Our Ivy Cap from Tilley is a popular hat for fall and winter. Soft and snug, it nestles just right on the top of the head. Now it’s even better: Tilley makes it with c-change technology.

C-change Technology uses a bionic membrane that is bonded to the fabric. Imitating nature, the waterproof and windproof polymer membrane reacts in the same way fir cones react to changing weather. The polymer expands when moisture is present or the temperature is high, permitting water vapor to escape. When the temperature drops, the polymer contracts and does not allow moisture or heat to escape. Hats and caps which incorporate this technology provide constant comfort in changing conditions.

July 3, 2013

Independence Day reminds us that we live in a country that gives us a chance to work hard and make a difference.  Many of our products are made by people with that philosophy. For them, made in the USA is a mark of pride.

Cavin Richie

Cavin’s designs are a reflection of his surroundings. His line includes birds, mammals and amphibians. Each item is accurately detailed. For the past thirty years he has carved using shed elk antler and woolly mammoth ivory. These carvings became the basis for his lost wax casting jewelry.

“Carving,” says Cavin “is like touching antiquity. I feel a kinship with a long lineage of carvers dating back to the Pleistocene.”

Kickin’ It Up!

March 29, 2013

Kickin’ up the back brim of your hat can add an additional flare to your Akubra. Your hat will have more of a fedora style than the traditional Aussie style.

It’s easy to kick up the back brim. All you need is a little steam from a tea kettle. Run the steam over the top of the brim for just a few seconds to get it soft. Then, push up the back from underneath with your thumbs. Push up at the base of the brim, right where it meets the crown.

You can watch this video to see how to steam your hat.

Ready for Adventure!

March 1, 2013

Adventure

No search for treasure is possible without the essentials. Protect your head from blistering sun, spiders and snakes (or just rain) with a real, rabbit-fur felt hat. The Adventurer is an open-crown hat that can be shaped just like the legendary archaeologist’s own fedora. It was designed by Akubra with specs from the prop master of Indy IV.

Our leather gloves are made from deerskin or kangaroo. Don’t be fooled by how soft and thin the kangaroo leather is, it’s incredibly tough. Gloves are available in brown, black or gold.

And for those rare cases where you just might need a bullwhip

The Hampton: A Lady’s Akubra

October 12, 2012

Get ready for fall and winter with a head warmer that is classic and stylish. The Hampton is ideal for women, especially petites. With its narrow brim and shorter crown, it adds elegance without being overwhelming.

The grosgrain ribbon is easily removable. Try adding your own colors, such as gold and orange for fall. And for winter, use a rich, deep blue.
