  • Why Buy?
We have offered a selection of Devold woolens for years, and are very pleased to add this garment. The details of its make up -- design, function, environmental responsibility -- combine to make an truly exceptional jacket.

Merino Wool is nature's super fiber, a very long staple, fine wool from the Merino sheep. Happy sheep grow happy wool, a renewable resource

Optim™ Technology The Merino wool is woven into fabric using Optim™ processing, a newer process developed in the last decade. The fabric is constructed at very high levels of thread density in warp and weft, using yarn that has been stretched, but not set. The woven fabric is then wet-finshed, releasing the stretch and causing the yarns to contract, leading to an extreme tightening of the fabric structure. The resulting fabric has enhanced water and wind resistant properties, yet retains all of wools natural properties. The Trollkyrkja Jacket fabric is tightly woven, smooth, thin and drapes well.

Design Devold's attention to detail is demonstrated throughout this jacket. All seams are taped, as shown above. The 14 inch zippers under the arms, shown to the right, can be opened while exercising strenuously, aiding the transportation of moisture away from the body without decreasing the protection from the elements. There are 4 inch reflective strips, front and back, on each shoulder for greater night time visibility.

Sustainability Devold's choice is to use natural, sustainable materials wherever possible, to work with their suppliers, supporting the highest standards of animal welfare, and to minimize their impact on the environment through innovation and reduced consumption. The Trollkyrkja Jacket, like the Devold woolens we offer, is made to last.

  • Trollkyrkja
Trollkyrkja is the Norwegian term for troll church, traditionally an unusual rock formation. Evocative of the outdoors, several mountains and caves share this name. Whether you are exploring the Trollkyrkja Caves in Norway, or wandering the streets of Seattle in a drizzle, the Trollkyrkja Jacket will keep you well protected from the elements.
  • Merino Wool

Merino wool is a very long staple, very fine wool from the Merino sheep. Merino sheep have been bred in Australia to produce extremely fine wool. Merino wool, particularly when twisted into a worsted yarn, is smooth to the skin. The fine fibres are soft, and the long staple gives fewer ends, reducing any irritation from loose ends.

Wool yarn for knitting or weaving falls into two general classifications, woolen yarn or worsted yarn. Woolen yarn is formed by drawing it from fibers with a random orientation, giving a yarn that is fluffy, with fibers in all directions. Worsted yarn is drawn from combed fibers, giving a yarn with fibers running along the length of the yarn, and is thus much denser and smoother than woolen yarn. Garments knitted from worsted yarn have a smooth dense fabric and wear extremely well.
