This is the wool cap that launched the Stormy Kromer tradition. After 100 years, it still leads the pack with its warmth, comfort and ruggedness. The crown is constructed from six-panels with an earband that ties in front for a customized fit. The earband can be easily pulled down over your ears for greater warmth without untying. The 2½ inch bill is pre-curved. Stormy's signature and the founding date are embroidered on the back of the cap. The cap fabric is 80% recycled wool/20% nylon, lined with 100% cotton flannel. Dry clean only. Made in USA. Discontinued.

  • Hat Sizing

    Heads come in all sizes, and in a surprising variety of shapes. Although high quality hats are adaptable, and will usually conform to differences in shape with a little wearing, it is essential that the size be correct for the head.

    To determine your hat or cap size, measure the circumference around your head, keeping the tape level and firm, across the temples and above the eyebrow ridges. If you do not have a tape measure, download, print and assemble our hat tape here: hat_tape.pdf. Check the size chart given below. For in-between measurements use the next size up.

    Check the Fit
    When your cap arrives, check the fit before wearing to make sure you have ordered the correct size. The cap should fit securely on the head without binding. The fit can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the earband ties. (Please note that the earband can be pulled down or pushed up without untying the ties.)

    If the cap does not fit, recheck your hat size, and exchange your cap for the correct size. Caps in unused condition can be returned for exchange or refund within 90 days of purchase.

  • Stormy Kromer

    Stormy Kromer got its start in the early 1900s. George "Stormy" Kromer had left semi-professional baseball to become a railroad engineer. Engineers often needed to stick their heads out of the window to see what lay ahead of the train, and Stormy's hat, needed for warmth in the cold midwestern plains, would sometimes blow off. He asked his wife, Ida, to modify an old baseball cap. Unlike a fedora, the baseball cap was constructed with six panels, and stayed put. Soon other railroad workers wanted his hat and the business, Kromer Cap Company, was born. In 2001 the company was purchased by Bob Jacquart after he learnt production was about to be discontinued. He changed the company name to Stormy Kromer, and moved it from Wisconsin to Ironwood in Michigan's Upper Pennisula, where the cap had a loyal following thanks to the region's long, cold winters. Over 100 years later, the product line has expanded but each item is still hand crafted, still made in the USA.
