The “Copper”, a decorated sheet of copper in the shape of a shield, was a symbol of wealth amongst the Northwest Coast Indians. It attained great value through being given away at potlatches, as each time it was given away it doubled in value. The “copper” might also be destroyed in order to shed wealth and increase the status of the owner. This bolo slide is stamped from copper to recall the origin. The bolo tie cord is our own production, hand braided from six strands of kangaroo hide with a flat neck section for comfort. The overall length, from end knot to end knot, not including leather tassels, is about 38 inches. The slide is abaout 2" in length. Made in USA. |
